Projekt Magic: Characterization of in vitro model to study MAmmary Gland mIcrobial Colonisation

Mother's milk is a valuable source of bacteria for the infant gut. With every breastfeeding the baby gets approximately one million of different bacteria, which are important for the development of his immune system and establishment of gut metabolism. The process of mammary gland microbial colonisation is still debatable. Within the frame of MAGIC postdoctoral project we want to know more about how bacteria inhabit mammary gland. That is why we will develop a laboratory model of the mammary gland, where we will be able to study the colonisation of different types of bacteria and their impact on the health of the mammary gland.
