| She is mainly involved in research (basic, applied, for industry) and partly in education (supervisor, lecturer). From January 2014 she is a leader of research program Nutrition and microbial ecology of GIT (P4-0097, Slovenian Research Agency). Her research expertise comprises: Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) – identification, microbiology, antimicrobial activity, bacteriocins, role in fermentation: isolation of LAB from different environment (milk, fermented foods, feces, intestinal mucosa), identification and genotypisation, bacteriocin isolation and characterization, development of LAB microbiota during fermentation. Application of molecular biological methods in dairy science and probiotic research: optimisation of molecular methods (PCR, real-time PCR), determination of viability of probiotics and LAB, quality control of probiotic products (foods, pharmaceutical preparations) Gut microbiota/microbiome and interactions probiotics – gut microbiota: analyses of microbiomes of clinical samples of human or animal origin (feces, intestinal mucosa) with real-time PCR and next generation sequencing, studies of probiotic functionality on animal models and in human clinical trials. |
